Sunday, 11th, February                  Railway Mafia 20+??? Castle Park 3

                                                                  (Match Abandoned)

Earlier today, Castle Park met the Railway Mafia at Whitby Community College for the first time since Christmas Eve. But the match was not without controversy. The Mafia were leading 10-3 when the match descended into a mudfight in the centre circle. While the Mafia continued to add goal after goal, most people lost count and with 15 minutes to go, Castle Park forfeited what could loosely be described as a ‘football match’!!!

Castle Park had made a great start to the match as they raced into a 2-0 lead. After just ten minutes a great run and finish by Steven Grisedale gave Park the lead. Just 5 minutes later the lead was doubled when Grisedale’s shot was parried only for Chris Headlam stab the ball home from close range. But the lead soon disappeared, Rob Clark stabbed the ball under Paul Lewis for 2-1, Ryan Myers then made it 2-2 before Clark put the Mafia in the lead with a carbon copy of his first. Clark completed his hat-trick on 37 minutes when he chipped the ball over Lewis for 4-2 at half-time.

The second half was a total farce. Further goals from Myers and Clark left the score at 7-2, Grisedale grabbed a consolation when he slid in with Cummins and the ball flew into the net. From that point on things went from bad to worse for Castle Park as the Mafia scored goal after goal as Park effectively gave up. Players were constantly out of position and the team had no shape at all whatsoever. Lewis was replaced in goal by Mark Jackson and later Ricky Hall. Lewis returned to the goal towards the end of the match but it was too little too late.

After the game, the Mafia attempted to drown several players in the large pond in the middle of the pitch. This left certain players resembling those chocolate characters at the start of Coronation Street (you know what I’m talking about)!!!
